Authorized Supplier for Copywriting Services Since 2008
It was the summer of 2008. The Great Financial Crisis was rippling across the globe and hurtling toward its dramatic climax (Lehman Brothers’ bankruptcy on September 15, 2008). Some were calling it the Panic of 2008. Banks were wobbling, Wall Street was sweating, and the word “toxic” suddenly applied to more than just office politics.
Here in Canada, though, it wasn’t quite all doom and gloom. The government’s Economic Action Plan, and specifically, the economic stimulus funds, combined with tax reductions, somewhat cushioned the shockwaves for us Canadians. While the world was staring down an economic abyss, we were quietly navigating potholes. Not to say it was easy, but in true Canadian fashion, we apologized to the recession, said “sorry, not today,” and kept moving.
The Spark That Lit MintCopy
Meanwhile, in the WSI World, business was buzzing. Digital marketing was on the rise, clients were hungry for visibility, and the timing was ripe for MintCopy, a content agency in Toronto, to take its first big leap as an Authorized Supplier with the e-Marketplace.
I still remember the fateful conversation with WSI’s then-president, Ron McArthur. Over a cup of green tea and roasted coffee beans (yes, that was his quirky pairing of choice since he had just returned from Bogota, Colombia), we chatted about the increasing demand for quality copywriting in the web marketing space.
Ron’s Challenge (and My Blink-Twice Moment)
I asked Ron if it made sense to introduce a professional copywriting service to the WSI e-Marketplace. In typical Ron fashion, he didn’t give me an answer; he handed me a challenge. “I don’t know; you tell me,” he said with that signature grin. “Our IC community is a powerhouse of intelligence. They are sticklers for quality. Are you ready to discover what you don’t know, push boundaries, and grow fast enough to keep up?”
Was I intimidated? Let’s just say I blinked twice and swallowed hard. I had 20+ years of corporate communications and PR under my belt, plus experience coaching new ICs under the Quick Start Program (QSP) and even managing WSI’s Corporate Communications department. But when Ron put it like that, my confidence wobbled just a little. Still, I looked him in the eye and said, “Yes, I think so, Ron.”
Ron simply handed me a few more coffee beans and said, “JFDI—Just F…Do It!” And so, I did. The rest is history.
Fast Forward to 2025
MintCopy launched on September 03, 2008, at the WSI Excellence and Innovation Conference in Las Vegas. Here we are in 2025. MintCopy is still here, still thriving as a content agency, still learning the twists and turns of SEO content, content marketing, AI copywriting, digital marketing, and still ever grateful to everything and everyone at WSI World. We’ve had the joy of serving long-standing heavyweights in the WSI Consultants’ community and are inspired daily by the skills and enthusiasm of new Consultants. This year, as WSI celebrates 30 Years, it feels like a collective milestone.
Much of that success is thanks to the vision and leadership that continue to shape this network: Dan Monaghan’s steady foresight, the ever-bright spark of Valerie Brown-Dufour, the innovative spirit of Cheryl Baldwin-Appleby and her tireless team, and the infectious energy of Michael Monaghan (yes, guitar in hand). Together, they have made sure the WSI World is much more than a business community; it’s a family with global reach.
MintCopy & WSI: A Bond That Lasts
For me, and for many others who have journeyed alongside WSI, the bond is truly everlasting. As The Eagles would say, “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”
And why would we want to? The future of digital marketing is being written every single day, and we get to hold the pen. With AI reshaping the landscape, consumer expectations rising, and creativity taking on bold new forms, there’s never been a more exciting time to be part of this world.
Looking Ahead: Future-Proofing Our Continued Success
Here’s to the next 30 years with WSI World! May we continue to push boundaries, rewrite possibilities, and, yes, occasionally fuel it all with coffee beans and courage.
